About YouLaLa
I used to happily let others sew for me. My mother, her degree in fabric design, made clothes by the drape and hand-sew method. My husband, a theatre major, learned to make ornate period costumes. So, I just defaulted to their expertise. But after I made my first bag, I was hooked, and a new hobby began. Later, when I retired, after 30 years as an elementary school library media specialist, I made my hobby a full-time pursuit. This has allowed me to perfect my craft with in-person classes, online targeted skill building. It's also turned out to be a wonderful collegial experience, attending professional conferences, collaborating with bag makers from around the world! It's helped me to find styles and patterns and informed my design and construction process.
I started out gifting my bags, then taking commissions from friends and word of mouth. After some time on an online maker site, I made the leap to Shopify, which offers me more creative control. My goal is to bring a smile with all I do and create with that in mind. Enjoy!
